Smartphones in Health? Survey says: Yes, Please

July 06, 2014 in In the News

The world has spoken: you want to be able to use your smartphone to interact with your healthcare providers!

Over 2,000 adult smartphone users worldwide – across countries including, but not limited to the UK, Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, and the United States – participated in a FICO survey looking at mobile, online, and in-person interactions with healthcare providers. The survey reveals that consumers want to be able depend on their smartphones to help them manage their personal health and shop for health care service.

Here are five statistics they found:

  1. 80% of people would like the option to use their smartphones to interact with healthcare providers.
  2. 54% of consumers would like to do more healthcare interactions via mobile in the future.
  3. Of that fifty-four percent, 80% already receive reminders of upcoming appointments.
  4. 71% of smartphone users are “open to offers of relevant healthcare services from businesses”.
  5. 56% of people worldwide trust health care organizations with personal data.

These numbers clearly show: the consumer is ready to communicate through their smartphones and make their own healthcare decisions. This also presents an opportunity for the healthcare industry to reach out to the consumer.

Stuart Wells, FICO’s chief product and technology officer says, “People are especially interested in mobile services that can help them manage their personal health and shop for health care services. The leading health care providers are increasingly turning to mobile technologies to meet this demand, and to engage frequently and proactively with consumers.”
